"Forsake not . . ."
"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near." -- Hebrews 10:25
I have already noticed that a lot of things are being blamed on "covid." Pro athletics not playing games -- because of covid. Schools closing -- because of covid. Businesses closing -- because of covid. Assignments being turned in late -- because of covid. Meat prices are high -- because of covid. Government becoming dictatorial -- because of covid. Riots in the street, along with racial injustice, are also attributed to people being cooped up so long -- because of covid. On and on we could go.
And to be sure, some of this is genuinely legitimate. For other things, its just another excuse.
I go to stores and restaurants, and they are pretty crowded. I just got back from vacation at the beach -- it looked like a normal June -- tons of traffic and crowds everywhere.
People, for the most part, do what they WANT to do. "I want to go on vacation! I AM going on vacation! Who cares about covid, the governor, public health or anything else!"
And then there is the church. The church of Jesus Christ is supposed to be made up of people who have surrendered their lives to Him as Lord and King of their lives. Sin and self have been renounced, and King Jesus rules in their heart and lives.
King Jesus tells us in His word -- pretty clearly I might add -- to NOT forsake meeting together. Yet, many, many people who go to stores, to restaurants, to work, to ball games, on vacations (wherever they WANT to go) are not coming to church because -- you guessed it -- covid.
Let me say, Jesus knows everything. He knows where we go, when we go and why we go. He also knows when we are obedient, and when we are disobedient to Him and His word. And one day, perhaps sooner than any of us realize, we will stand before Him and give an account. "Because of covid" is not an excuse that will fly.
You a Christian? Is Jesus Lord of your life? If so, your actions, your conduct, will reveal it.
If you are a Christian, I encourage you to heed His word and come back to meeting together. This is family, and when a part of the family is missing, it aint right. Now more than ever this world needs a strong church, and it cannot be strong if you neglect it.
